Pumpkin Heads by Rainbow Rowell | BOOK REVIEW

7/2/20

After a few weeks without posting I'm back with a book review. This time from one of my favourites authors, Rainbow Rowell.

I am reviewing her first ever graphic novel, Pumpkinheads, and let me tell you! This is a new favourite. Rainbow has a writing style that makes you feel warm and cosy and who doesn't want that when they're reading a book? but it's also fun and the stories are just so good. And it wasn't any different in graphic novel form.

PUMPKINHEADS by Rainbow Rowell

Genre: YA, contemporary, graphic novel
Rating: 5/5

Every autumn, all through high school, they’ve worked together at the best pumpkin patch in the whole wide world. They say good-bye every Halloween, and they’re reunited every September 1 but this Halloween is different—Josiah and Deja are finally seniors, and this is their last season at the pumpkin patch. Their last shift together. Their last good-bye.

Josiah’s ready to spend the whole night feeling melancholy about it. Deja isn’t ready to let him. She’s got a plan: What if—instead of moping and the usual slinging lima beans down at the Succotash Hut—they went out with a bang? They could see all the sights! Taste all the snacks! And Josiah could finally talk to that cute girl he’s been mooning over for three years . . .
What if their last shift was an adventure?

I ordered this book as soon as it came out and I was planning on reading it during Halloween but it never happened, now a fee months later I can say that this was my first time reading a graphic novel and I really really enjoyed it. Not only because it was a good story, but also because of all the detailed art in it too. Also it's perfect to read in one sitting.

Illustrated by Faith Erin Hicks, it captures all the autumn feels. And as always Rainbow Rowell did not disappoint. Like everyone has said, the only way you can describe this book is "cute".
I can't say anything else about it besides you need to get your hands on a copy and read it. The story is super cute and funny. I love the chemistry and friendship between Deja and Josiah, and yes, it was a bis predictable but I still loved every bit of it. Oh! and don't forget the setting. Also super cute.

Right after I finished it I ordered a few more graphic novels because I've been listening to the Books Unbound podcast and they have really good recommendations, but I will be showing you those on a future blog post when they arrive. Excitement!

Do you all have a favourite graphic novel? Or have you every read one? Let me know. I'm all ears!
